FAQ
Q: What does “superfluence” mean?
A: Superfluence is kind of an idea or concept of my life. You could call it pathos or commitment or believe. What ever you name it, the meaning is to go beyond a border. It´s not about “to know something”, it´s about “to understand something in a special way”. This kind of approach can´t be found in books or lectures. It is a very intimate relation to a subject. This intimate approach is it, that makes me tell people to question what i say and what i do. Information can´t be given, it can only be realized. The only person who can do that is you, and you alone. Interaction, social and cultural contacts are a key function to understand information. But the outcome of this interaction is your perspective of it. This is also true for information in science. It is the main reason why we, as humans, get up in the morning, look out of the window and ask “Why?”.
The most joyful question i ever found in my life is: What is the meaning of “0″ (zero)
Q: Which books had the most influence on you?
A: In a non-hierarchical list:
- Die Kunst der Gesellschaft by Niklas Luhmann
- Must We Burn De Sade? by Simone de Beauvoir
- Discipline & Punish: The Birth of the Prison by Michel Foucault
- Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity by Judith Butler
- The Invincible by Stanisław Lem
Q: What is your work about?
A: I´m all about the human body and it´s cultural meaning - aka, the human body and it´s powerful relation to the means of civilizations. I tend to think that i approach this topic from the directions of writing and photography, but that´s wrong. I work in every possible technique because the human body is so rich and fascinating, that it would be a enormous failure to limit it to one or two areas. Information, as i said before, is relation. If you want to show, and even more if you want to know something, the meaning changes intensely with the medium. Words can make you see things, but not in the way a photo can, or in the way music can, or in the way any other medium can. Then there is also the use of the medium. It seems to me we are in a age that pays little respect to the impact of the form of presentation on the meaning of the presented. A photo shown in a print has a different meaning from a photo shown on a screen, on a wall, on a shirt and so on. The relation of media and the subjects creates information in fluid and always changing way. So the human body, seen as a interface and stage of who we are, what we are, is the ultimate node of relations. That´s what makes him so fascinating.
Q: I want more!
